#1 - IT BEGINS

This trip started the way many of our trips do.  Ruth has an idea.  This time, the idea was:

“We should go see gorillas”.

It sounded good to me, so the year and a half of planning began.  We’re incredibly research intensive.  Every trip has a detailed spreadsheet.  So, hours upon hours of reading forums, blogs, and reviews, watching videos and searching the web later, we determined our plan.  We figured out the best way we could see gorillas, what else we wanted to do in the area, and slowly built the entire trip.  After that we found a local guide in Uganda that would arrange the details of our specific plan. Realizing that we’d be close to Kenya during the great Wildebeest migration, we added on a few nights in the Masai Mara after Uganda.

(For Uganda, we used Wild Jungle Safari Trails as our local agent.  Owner/manager Twaha was also our driver & guide.  He was fantastic, dealt with our seemingly thousands of questions and schedules, and made sure we were able to do everything we wanted.  He seemed to know everyone in each spot, and always ensured we had the best guide for any trek or tour).

Finally, the day of the trip arrived.
