6- Relaxing at Sky Lagoon, Whiskey Tasting

Thu Aug 21

We wake up and look out our balcony to see… oh, right.  We’re still in Reykjavik.

Still looks great, though.

After a ship breakfast of yogurt (we already miss our daily Skyr), we grab a taxi for a relaxing morning at the Sky Lagoon.

We chose this spa over the more well-known Blue Lagoon because Sky doesn’t allow kids.  The enormous thermal pool steams as the naturally hot water hits the cool Iceland air.  The spa overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, making it into one massive infinity pool.

We also do the seven step spa ritual with cold plunges, scrubs and steam rooms.

Overall We have a fantastic time and think we made the right choice.

(All spa photo credits go to Mel, who was the only one brave enough to bring her phone into the spa [In a waterproof bag, of course] ).

After a stop at the ship for showers and lunch, we leave again.  This time, it’s a distillery tour and tasting at Eimverk Distilling.  While the spirits weren’t amazing, we had a great time tasting everything they make, and they make a LOT of different things.

Check out that lineup (and the great logo, too).  We tasted them all.

These were the glasses the four of us racked up during our tasting!

We return to the city and bounce around Reykjavik a bit more.

We have a final dinner at a noodle house (the food on Azamara is really good, but we like to eat local whenever we can), then board the ship.

Jim and Mel shut down karaoke at the late, late hour of 09:30 pm (older clientele, remember).

We also find out that bad weather would cause us to skip our next step, which was Heimaey Island.  We had planned a tour to see masses of puffins, and would have been a highlight.  (We knew that Iceland stops are often canceled due to winds.  This is our only missed stop on the trip, and now we have a reason to return). We’re disappointed, but glad we got to see some puffins on the first day.

We get our revised Itinerary, and we scramble to cancel our Heimaey tour and adjust our Faroe Islands expedition, since we’d now be there a day earlier.

We're sad about the change of ports, but on the bright side, check out the sunset as we leave Reykjavik.

Friday is now a day at sea.  We relax, work out, play some trivia and prep for our next tour.  Here's a few bonus sea day pictures.

Tomorrow we'll be in the Danish owned Faroe Islands.
