Thur Aug 28 – Siglufjordur, Iceland
We awaken in the harbor. We pop out to our balcony and spy a swarm of Jellyfish drifting past.
Today we're on our first ship excursion in a years.
We're dubious but ready to join the crowds. We're taking a road trip to the town of Dalvik for whale watching on a big boat.
Because we booked last minute, Siglufjordur was the one port where we couldn’t really book our own tour. We settled on a ship’s tour whale watching. We were worried that it would be redundant to our other mediocre experience. Instead of a Rib boat, we’d be on a big boat with lots of other people.
We board the big bus for a 40 min bus ride to the town of Dalvik. We gear up and walk to the dock. Because we’re crazy Type-A people, we walk faster than everyone else and board the boat quickly enough to get a prime spot at the front of the bow.
I was hesitant about this tour. I was wrong.
This turns out to be our best whale watching experience to date. Humpbacks are all over, feeding (check out the video, below) and tail slapping. The mountains around us keep the water calm. We're so happy we did this one!
Wow, that was fun!
We bus back to Siglufjordur and stroll around the tiny port town. Wouldn't you know it, we find a brewery. It's almost as if we planned it!
Tomorrow, our last day of the trip
