Planning for this trip started 15 months early, in Feb 2024.
We started with an early evening drive from Philly to JFK Airport. Loving Qatar Air, we convinced everyone to book Qatar's Q Suites business class.
As always, this is an amazing product. Plus, the Doha airport and lounge are great. Check out the swimming pool sized reflection pool in the lounge.
Finally, after 33 hours of traveling, we land in Cape Town, South Africa. To get ourselves on the local time, we start out with a few hours walking around Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. It's a great way to get outside and get in some walking after so much sitting on airplanes, and the views with Table Mountain in the background are stunning.
Dinner that night is at Black Sheep Gastropub. It's been our first meal on all three trips and we still love it.
(Plus, they have some tasty choices - Ruth gets pasta with Warthog. I had Springbok. Yum).
After dinner, we're all exhausted. We toast to our trip and then make it an early night. We're ready for our first full day of Cape Town.
