Our two full days here were packed. We had a game drive through the Murchison Falls park, two amazing boat safaris along the Nile, and a trip to nearby Budongo Forest to look for chimpanzees.
The game drive was interesting, and the chimp search was okay. But, the two boat rides were by far our favorite things here. Animals were everywhere along the river. Eagles. Crocodiles. Hippos. Elephants. All were stopping by for a drink or searching for a meal.
We Found The Shoebill !
One boat trip went to the base of the falls. The other went to the nearby river delta, where we searched for the Shoebill… and found two of them! Watch as he slams a fish onto the ground to soften it up.
After our shoebill, we had a private cooked breakfast and a short hike on a nearby island.
Our friends at the lodge
While no other guests were there, our lodge meals were often accompanied by the troop of Vervet Monkeys that lived on the tree right next to the lodge. Even our car rides to get to the each place were eventful, since baboons were everywhere along the street (and parking lots).
Sunset over the Nile River
Our three nights up, we packed up and moved from the river to the forest. We’re heading for the land of chimpanzees.
