Mon Aug 25 – Seydisfjordur, Iceland
Today we are completely self-guided. We dock in the little (population: 700 people) port of Seydisfjordur. We are off the ship by 930 for our 6 mile round trip waterfall hike. The road has little traffic, so it is a safe walk. We see more free roaming sheep than cars.
Back in town, we stop at one of the few restaurants. El Grillo just happens to be a popular local brewpub. A good lunch involved a few beers, burgers, and (according to Ruth) the greatest baked potato ever.
We finished up walking around town and find another waterfall to visit. From some informational cairns, we also learn the myth of the 13 Yule Lads that cause mischief during the holidays.
Back on the ship for dinner, we end the quiet ship night with a rousing game of 80’s Trivial Pursuit. It was guys against girls, and in one sense, we all had fun and were all winners. In another, more precise sense, the guys win with a come from behind victory. Not that I was keeping track, or anything.
We get to bed early and look forward to seeing whales tomorrow
